BBC Short Stuff
Catch-Up With the Ex (written and directed by David McGinty) is a sketch about the nightmare scenario of meeting an ex in the street and being unable to resist descending into passive-aggressive sniping. It’s had well over a million views on Facebook and it led to the commission of a 10-minute non-TX taster tape by BBC Scotland, produced by the wonderful Pure Leo.
Splain (written and directed by David McGinty) started life as a self-funded short film project by We Can Rebuild Him, and was retrospectively sold to BBC Short Stuff, opening the door for the rest of these sketches to be commissioned. It’s the story of a young woman who can’t seem to escape unsolicited advice from a well-meaning but obnoxious uncle-type figure in her life. David considers both characters to be autobiographical.
Games Night (With Your Pals Who Should Break Up), co-written and co-directed by David McGinty and Paul Hamilton, is basically premised thus: you have to play board games with two human beings who have absolutely no business being a couple.
